The ignition coil is like a small transformer, which converts the 12 volts into high voltage

The spark plug can ignite the engine's combustible mixture in time.

First: Once the  ignition coil  is damaged, as the spark plug cannot penetrate and ignite the combustible mixture, it is very easy to cause the engine to lack cylinders, resulting in severe jitter. If there are too many missing cylinders or two adjacent working cylinders are missing cylinders at the same time, the engine will most likely not start normally.

Second: If the ignition coil is damaged, if the combustible gas of the engine cannot be ignited in time, the combustion of the combustible mixture of the engine will still be affected due to the weakening of the spark plug's flashover ability, resulting in adverse reactions such as increased fuel consumption and reduced power.

Third: due to the failure to ignite in time or the inability to ignite the combustible gas of the engine, a large amount of carbon deposits in the engine cylinder are generated. As a result, excessive carbon deposits are generated in the cylinder, and in severe cases, the cylinder is pulled and the engine oil is burned. It will also cause carbon deposits to burn in advance to ignite ?

Fourth: When the ignition coil voltage is too low and the spark plug’s flashover ability is weakened, it will also cause incomplete combustion of the combustible mixture, and the incomplete combustion of the combustible mixture will produce a burning substance called carbon deposits. And the car exhaust will emit black smoke.

The multimeter of the ignition coil can roughly judge whether it is good or bad, but for some ignition coils with an internal ignition module, it is impossible to judge whether it is good or bad, especially some of which only have a slight inter-turn short circuit in the internal coil. At this time, the oscilloscope and the COP probe can intuitively see the secondary waveform of the ignition coil. For such inter-turn short circuit, leakage, and ignition system faults caused by  spark plug  problems, it can be accurately judged, but for the good waveform Bad also needs the accumulation of experience, which is a relatively long process

If the ignition coil is severely damaged, resulting in too many engine cylinders or two adjacent working cylinders lacking cylinders at the same time, the engine may not start normally, and the car will not be able to run normally.

If the ignition coils only impair the spark plug's ability to flash, the vehicle is drivable. Of course, if you insist on driving, there will be adverse phenomena such as increased fuel consumption and reduced power.
